What is a Wedge? Types of Wedges and How to Choose the Right One

In golf, a wedge is an important club, specially designed to hit short shots, deep shots like squash shots or help the ball get onto the green. Understanding the types of wedges and how to choose them will help you improve your game significantly.

1. What is a Wedge?

A wedge is a type of golf club in the iron family, designed with a high loft to add height and spin to the ball. Wedges are often used for short shots around the green, bunkers, or shots that require precision.

  • High loft angle: From 45° to 64°, increases height and spin for the ball.

  • Main uses:

    • Hit technical shots, such as chips, pitches or flop shots.

    • Get out of bunkers or rough.
